In light of Girls in Aviation Day Luxaviation UK interviews Kristina Lankester, cabin crew manager
Kristina Lankester is a Cabin Crew Manager at Luxaviation UK.
What sparked your interest in Aviation?
I was exposed to the aviation industry from a young age as my mother was a corporate flight attendant and this is what initially sparked my interest. I also began my career in aviation. At the age of 17 I started working on the ground in Business Aviation, but my desire was to be in the air just like my mother. I came across an amazing opportunity to join a Business Class only airline called Silverjet when I was 20 years old and the rest is history!
What advice would you give young women considering a career in aviation?
You must be ready to work hard as everyday is different which comes with its own challenges and rewards. Make sure you take every opportunity to see the world as you will meet a whole array of fantastic people and will have the best time of your life.
What is your greatest achievement at Luxaviation UK?
I look back at 12 years of flying and I realise just how much I have experienced and accomplished. My job has allowed me to be on tour with rock stars, safaris in Africa, conversations with dignitaries and experience white beaches, ancient cities and modern metropolises. I am very thankful of my job and the opportunities that have arisen from it.
What do you like about working for Luxaviation UK?
We have a great team of people across all the departments and I would say that is one of our biggest assets. I also value the opportunities that Luxaviation have presented to me over the years such as increasing my responsibility and expanding my role.
What are your day-to-day responsibilities at Luxaviation UK?
As a cabin crew manager, I have the responsibility of managing 13 crew members whilst ensuring a high level of safety and service standards are always maintained onboard. I am also a training and AOC support staff member. This role requires me to organise and book all flight crew training, maintain training records and liaise with all department to ensure the correct and required training takes place accordingly.
