The Football Weekend : 19th May 2012
This last weekend has been one for football and what a nail biter it has been ….
Despite my sons and I not going over to the Chelsea match this weekend - sadly the ticket price offered was £2,750 per ticket! :-( ….. we had a great time watching the match on TV. What a way to finish though - a late goal by Drogba and then those penalty shoot outs!! Who was the star for me? Drogba or Petr Cech ….. well given the +/- play by Drogba I plumb for Petr Cech.
At LEA we had 15 of our aircraft flying out to the match with many avid fans. Both crew and passengers enjoyed themselves … have a look at the photos below to see! The match going into extra time presented additional challenges for our Operations department as the return flights would not be able to operate to the planned schedules. Despite the number of flights needing flight plan changes and new airport slots, our Operations staff were able to co-ordinate all our flights back to the UK and get our passengers on their way within minutes of getting back to the airport after the match …….. so well done to Leigh Westwood, our operations manager, and his team.
A double whammy rounded the good feel factor - my business partner George Galanopoulos and Tony Medlock (who runs our accounts department) are very keen West Ham supporters to say the least and were lucky enough to be at Wembley on Saturday to watch Sam Allardyce guide West Ham back to the Premiership winning the Championship play-off final with superb goals from Ince and Cole, in a thrilling encounter with Blackpool.
After a great football weekend I’m looking forward to the Euro 2012 in June! It would be great to see England do well – If you want to see our boys play live at the stadium, make sure you book a plane early to avoid disappointment - If the Champions League is anything to go by! As the Euro is being hosted by Poland and Ukraine in a number of different cities, we have listed each date and venue to make it easy for you to plan for matches: Euro 2012
And this week's weather looks promising too! Big smiles all round.
