Celebrating Girls in Aviation with Catherine Hepworth at Luxaviation UK
What sparked your interest in aviation?
When I joined Luxaviation UK five years ago, I was a new advocate for the aviation industry. I was looking for something that was more than just your usual finance role, when a job opportunity arose at Luxaviation UK.
Along with the normal duties that go along with being in accounts receivable, I have learnt the new language glossary and the obsession with short codes and abbreviations unique to aviation.
What advice would you give young women considering a career in aviation?
My advice would be to give it a chance as it really is a captivating industry.
What is your greatest achievement at Luxaviation UK?
Along with being great with numbers, I love that I can use my people skills in my job. I often need to act as mediator between different parties and I make sure these types of issues are handled in a sensitive manner and with the level of service you would expect from Luxaviation UK.
What do you like about working for Luxaviation UK?
I really enjoy working at Luxaviation UK, particularly the ongoing opportunities there are for new training and updating skills within the group.
What are your day-to-day responsibilities at Luxaviation UK?
A typical day at Luxaviation UK would involve issuing sales invoices by monitoring our multi-currency bank accounts. As you would expect from working in accounts, I also interpret flight briefs and make sure I’m aware of any possible out of hours or additional charges that could be recovered.
I also oversee the purchase ledger system for Luxaviation UK, this includes approving fuel and relevant expenses. I make sure payments are met within the required timeframe.
Another key part of my job is looking after the costing of an aircraft and then recharging relevant costs back to aircraft owners, such as parking navigation slots, parking permits and the handling of the aircraft.
No two days at Luxaviation UK are the same, which is what makes my job so enjoyable and interesting.
