Mykonos is now the most popular destination for private jets
Forget the South of France, Monaco or Ibiza: Mykonos has become the most popular destination for private jet users, with 1,600 requests made to Luxaviation this summer.
‘This year alone we have received 2,000 private flight quote requests to Greece from the UK, with 80% of those going to Mykonos,’ says George Galanopoulos, managing director of Luxaviation UK. ‘Two or three years ago this would have been a significantly smaller percentage.’
Galanopolous believes the increased popularity of the glamorous Greek island is tied to the new generation of private jet users, who are attracted to its white-washed towns and chic beach clubs, such as celebrity favourite Scorpios. Indeed, Tatler’s contributing editors Philippa Cadogan and Eleanor Wellesley were both recently summering there.
Millennial private jet users are also eschewing the champagne lifestyle of the past, with Galanopolous explaining that the adjective most-often used for on-board requests is ‘healthy’ rather than ‘hedonistic’: ‘An increasing number of our clients are requesting healthy, meat-free options such as superfood salads, plant-based proteins, freshly pressed juices and flavoured waters – compared with the more conventional Michelin-star, Champagne-fused onboard dining experiences that many associate with private jet travel.’
